Our work
Helix projects are primarily focussed in three areas of healthcare where we believe our capabilities can make the biggest impact.
Early detection and screening
Early detection of disease improves both the chances of a good health outcome and the efficiency of the health system. Scientific and technological advances mean that affordable, at-home diagnostic and screening tools can be as accurate as expensive, lab-based methods, resulting in fewer trips to hospitals and clinics. Bowel health
Improving take-up in bowel cancer screening

Emerging diagnostic technology
Combining breakthrough science and digital design to bring the lab to the home
Effective treatment
Acute medicine is complicated, and getting more so. Healthcare professionals on the frontline need digital tools that make it as easy as possible to do the right thing for the right patient at the right time. Our work aims to bring evolving knowledge of best practice and clinical data into the hands of clinicians making complex decisions on the frontline. We work closely with interdisciplinary teams in hospitals, who need data and guidance from multiple sources to look after their patients.

Hark: A clinical communication platform
Developing clinical task management for safer, more productive hospitals

ReSPECT
Personalised medicine, even in an emergency

Giving complex medications to children
Developing a clinical decision support system for paediatric emergencies
Holistic care
Living a healthy life means more than just exercise, a good diet and medicine. There is increasing evidence that those who have strong social bonds with families, friends and communities tend to live healthier and happier lives. Similarly, high quality care is also driven by the quality of our relationships and interactions with family, carers and dedicated community- based healthcare professionals.

The Dementia lab
Human-centred design within dementia research and dementia care

OnTrack
Developing scalable, evidence-based solutions for neurorehabilitation through a deep understanding of behaviour and data

Children's hospice care
Prototyping products, services and experiences for a new children’s hospice

Living well until we die
Designing future hospice care with individuals, families and professionals

Advance care planning – for everyone
Digital services that facilitate difficult conversations
Alongside our projects teams, we also have a Design Strategy Team that works to include human-centred design in a variety of collaborative initiatives.
